What is the AGOGE? Well it was a school in ancient Sparta. It was a school where boys were taught to be warriors. When boys turned 7 they were taken away to start school at the Agoge. They stayed at the Agoge until they turned 3o years old. That’s about 13yr at school. They were taught to physical training (martial arts) endurance and strength training . They were also taught how to wrestle. The children were not given enough food, they were expected to steal it. They were caught they would be punished. These soldiers were to defend Sparta until they reached 60.
A funny end to the swimming carnival
As we have noticed in the past weeks in Sydney. It has been raining heaps. But it rained alot at the swimming carnival.
On Thursday the 7th of Feburary Beverly Hills H.S went to Roselands swimming pool to host their swimming carnival. And our theme for the day was “PIRATES”. Nearly everyone dressed up. It started with the freestyle. Then the yr 7s got to do a scavenger hunt. Where they were given clues and they had to find the right items on the clues. After we had the hunt there was some more races. Then of course the unmetionable happened. Right we had the mini advents in the pools (it was like a relay) it rained hard. It was pouring. So it ended our carnival. But the best thing about the carnival was the face painting.

A great night -”Presentaion Night”
Last night Belmore South had their presentation night. Presentation night was a great way to show what the school has been doing and learning.
On presentation night they present awards, like dux and prox ax and awards like the “Meritorious award” (which is like for improvement and behaviour) but there are many more awards.
On that night kindergarten and stage 1 did performances – they were “so many animals” and “G’day, G’day and “Konichiwa.” Stage 2 showed off some fantastic skipping and juggling, dancing skills. And even some ball skills!
The choir also had a great performance – they sang “Feed the birds” (which is featured in Mary Poppins) and “Bare Necessities” (which is sang in the Jungle book). They sang wonderfully.
Special guests came to help award the winners. Guest like Mr McGrath who is, from Belmore RSL club and Chase Stanley, who was a ex-student of Belmore South.
We can all agree that presentation night was a great night for all of us who came!
So you think you can DANCE?
On Friday the 9th of November Belmore South felt the need, the need to…DANCE!!! The SRC had the opportunity to plan the disco and by the way everyone was screaming, shouting and dancing, everyone had a great time.
The SRC decided to hold the disco to raise money for the year six farewell. Most people just love the music playing. Some songs just played over and over and over again. Lots of Belmore South students can dance really well and the disco was a chance to show of their skills.
BUT… you had to pay $2 to get in and $1 to wear mufti. But it didn’t matter because we all had fun on disco day. And we were raising money for the school.
High school
High school While the years 4 & 5 were doing leadership training, the year 6 were learning how to adjust to high school. We used a CD which contained information about…
·Using a timetable
·Bullying, stress, anger, conflict and relationships
·Friendship
·Getting to and from school safely
And much, more.
We also talked about situations that we could experience in high school. We had a workbook that focused in settling into high school.
High school is a big step. We have to work harder, much, harder. High school is much more different than primary school.
The high school I am going to next year is Beverly Hills girls high school. I think I’m going to like it there because my friends are coming with me and I like the subjects and opportunities that the school offers.
Are Dragons real?
Do you think dragons are real?
What if they ARE NOT real?
People have recorded sightings of seeing dragons for a long time. But could these people in the past have mistaken these so called “dragons” as merely the every day common reptile? Or any animal. Could they have just mistaken a dragon for a crocodile or a chameleon? Couldn’t they? But there have been sightings. But no actually proof of authenticity. What if dragons are just a figment of imagination? We all want to believe in something? Maybe dragons are just prehistoric animals that have survived without us knowing? But what is the definition of dragon? Dragon: A mythical monster traditionally represented as a gigantic reptile having a lion’s claws, the tail of a serpent, wings and a scaly skin. We will never really know.
What if they ARE real?
Have you seen animals fly? You probably have. But have you seen an animal that flies, has scales and breathes fire? You probably haven’t. But some people “supposedly” have seen dragons. Why are dragons such a phenomenon, because no knows or can’t tell whether they are real or not? If you suddenly saw a dragon would you tell everyone or tell yourself it was a trick of the light? Science has come a long way, but can they solve this mystery? Can they really say they DO NOT exist, without gathering all the facts? Dragons have been called a mythological creature. But can we say dragons are animals? Though some animals are called dragons, like the Komodo dragon, are they really dragons? No! Would the world be better off knowing dragons exist or maybe dragons are better off alone? Do we really need a new species on the endangered list? Maybe dragons have come to know that with modern technology they are better of in peace and in hiding.
People might never solve this mystery. Are dragons real? The answer is uncertain.

Reading Circles (part 1)
The book I am reading for reading circles is “Five Times Dizzy & dancing in the Anzac deli.” The story is about Mareka. Mareka is a Greek girl and she moved to
Australia with her family. Her family moved to
Newtown. She feels like an outsider and she thinks her family don’t fit in with the other families living in the neighbourhood. She is being bullied by the “
Wilson gang.” The Wilson gang is a group of kids in her neighbour hood. Mareka doesn’t like them. They call her names and make fun of her. Her dad owns a shop on the corner of her street. The shop is called “Delicatessen.” And Yaya (her grandma) is feeling homesick. She misses her goat (Poppy), the long walks in the sunset, the rolling hills in the background, the grass swaying with the wind and most importantly Greece, her homeland. Mareka tries desperately to make Yaya happy. She has the idea of getting Yaya a job.
I think the book is really interesting because Mareka trys so hard to make sure Yaya happy and you will never know what she will do next.
